Ye Were Healed

    © 17 Colin Melbourne

    Symbolic or Factual?

Q: You write of 1 Pe. 2:24 “…by whose stripes ye were healed” to mean physical healing, whereas I have always understood it as symbolic of Christ healing our wounded souls. After all, it’s a quote from Isaiah 53 which speaks allegorically of the lost as sheep gone astray. Am I missing something?

A: Lovely question! There will be joy in your heart when you discover the answer.

    Believing On Christ

      © 19 Colin Melbourne

Q: Is there a difference between believing on, and believing IN Him?

A: The phrase; believing ON, is primarily used in reference to sinners repenting of unbelief and believing on The LORD Jesus Christ.

The Rich Young Ruler and Christ

The Holy Spirit relates this incident three times in the Gospels because it teaches us so much about salvation. Please read it in Mtt. 19:16-30, Mk. 10:17-27, and Lk. 18:18-30 asking the LORD to open your eyes.

        Faith Without Repentance is Dead

          © 22 Colin Melbourne

Q: What’s the difference between faith and repentance?

          A: That’s a very perceptive question!

          They Only Function In Unison

In practical, and scriptural, terms there’s little difference, because bible faith is an action, not mere mental assent, and repentance without a corresponding change in action constitutes hypocrisy.

            Giving Birth Spiritually

There’s a depth of prayer far beyond normal intercession, where the believer travails in the spirit of prayer, with deep compassion, and ultimately brings forth that which Father has placed on your heart.

It may take minutes or hours of such travail, perhaps as in Abram’s case, even decades of believing prayer.

                Repeat Water Baptism?

                  © 10 Colin Melbourne

How many times should I be baptised?

Q: I belong to a church that believes that if you have been baptised and you have not changed, then you must be baptised again. The Bishop himself was baptised seven times because he did not change after the first six times.

As a result of their belief, I was baptised twice. The first time was before I joined this church, but because I heard the message of keep baptising until you’ve changed, I got baptised again with them.

                    Truth or Tradition?

Q: I’ve read your pages on Christian Baptism where you insist on dunking the person. My church prefers sprinkling or pouring water on people. Are you saying that is not proper baptism?

A: Sprinkling, pouring, dabbing, and splashing are not biblical baptism in water.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

                      Holy Bible Mtt. 28:19 KJV

In the Bible, believers were baptised in water as soon as they believed the Gospel.

A: This topic arises when people depart from the LORD’s will for us, either through rejection of the Gospel of Christ, or a shallow understanding of redemption by faith in Him.

A: Well spotted, this finding prompts unbelievers to claim it’s a contradiction, because whales are now classified as Mammals, in a unique zoological order (Cetaceans), separate from the creatures we call fish.

Q: What are we to make of the Tree of Life in the Bible, it sounds more symbolic than real, especially when mentioned at the end of the Bible, and does it have any similarity to the Tree of Life we are taught in Biology class at school?

A: The Tree of Life first mentioned in Genesis 2:9 KJV., is both real and symbolic.

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

                                          Christ’s Message to Believers

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Holy Bible 1 Jn. 1:5-7 KJV

The Word of God became Flesh and Blood and taught His followers how to live in the Secret Place of the Almighty, in harmony with Him, cleansed of every sin.
