Popular interest in Queen Victoria (b1819-d1901) has risen since she was portrayed by Jenna Coleman in a 2016 English TV series.
The victorian regnal saw Britain emerge as “Great”, through industrial development, technological inventions such as steam-engines, railways, steel ships, telephony, electric motors, generators, transformers, with many agricultural and scientific breakthroughs, all backed by military and naval might.
Imperial Wars
Foreign lands were “appropriated”, colonised, and developed to form the Commonwealth, and ultimately the renowned, and infamous, British Empire.

Crimean War
Victoria endorsed the ongoing war in Ukraine on the basis that it’s better for the natives of Crimea to be ruled by Europeans than by Russians.
Which still seems to be the logic ruling today.
Indian Massacres
Indian locals unsurprisingly resented the conquest and pillaging of their land by the British, so they rebelled and Victoria’s militia massacred civilians, to “teach them a lesson.” 150,000 were butchered, and the Queen was awarded the title “Empress of India”.

Victoria’s third war: The Boer Wars with an estimated 75,000 casualties
African Wars
The blood-spattered monarch snatched gold-rich South Africa away from the Boers at the cost of 75,000 casualties.
Whilst she was on-a-roll, investing lives in Africa, she also picked up the “Gold Coast” of West Africa, and swathes of East Africa from the Mau-Maus.
Well Somebody Has to Rule Natives
The Monarch defended her hegemony by claiming it was better to be ruled, organised (and pillaged Ed.) by the British than to be invaded by a malicious power (ie. France, Turkey, or Russia), or carelessly left to religious and tribal strife.
The Duke of Wellington’s intervention in Ukraine led to the Crimean War of 1853–56, between Russia and an alliance of; Great Britain, France, Sardinia, and Turkey. Which kept Florence Nightingale (pictured) busy attending to casualties, however conditions were so filthy, ten times more soldiers died from cholera and dysentery than from combat.
The conflict was initiated by Russian aggression against Turkey in 1853, European allies intervened and destroyed Russian naval power in the Black Sea in 1854, and eventually captured Sevastopol in 1855 following a protracted siege.

Copper Coined
Victoria’s image was on many of the coins of my childhood, so it was easy to collect “copper” pennies still in circulation that were minted in the 1800’s. (They are made of bronze but called coppers)
The last penny of her 63 year reign was dated 1901, of which I had several very worn examples in my coin collection.

So vigorous was The Empire’s expansion my boyhood world-map was crimson (for Commonwealth and Empire) from Canada, to East, West, and South Africa, Palestine, Aden (Yemen) the Indian Subcontinent, Burma, Singapore, Malaya, Hong Kong, and the Antipodean colonies of Australia, New Zealand, plus various Pacific Isles.

Pondering a suitable present for her German Cousin, Queen Victoria mused out loud, “What shall I give Willy for Christmas? I know… Mount Kilimanjaro!“
And we are thrilled by a pair of socks wrapped in brown paper.
Real or Pretend?
You may enjoy reading her official biographies, and watching the film (I’ve not seen it.) but what interests me was the nature of her Christian experience, was the “Empress of India” really a Christian, or another royal phony?
Preposterous Sir!
Religious people assume she must have been a Christian because she claimed to be so from childhood, she read her Bible, attended services, and prayed.
Father’s Witness
But so do; nominal “Christians”, mere Church-goers, and cultists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Roman Catholics, Jews, Muslims, etc. but none of them have God’s testimony in their spirit confirming they are a child of God. Holy Bible 1 John 5:9-10 and 2:3-6 KJV;
If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
The Windsor Curse
I note that neither Queen Elizabeth II, nor King Charles III have ever displayed the least trace of being genuine Christians.
I watched them carefully after I was born again in 1988, and the Royal Family paid only lip-service to the God of the Holy Bible, without actually knowing Him personally.
Not once did I have the inner witness they were born again.
For foreigners, this is difficult to comprehend, because the British Monarch has the formal title; Head of the Church of England, so they assume the monarch must have real biblical faith in The LORD Jesus Christ.
The truth is, the House of Windsor exists under a self-inflicted curse.
The Church of England was the product of Tudor King Henry the Eighth and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I.
Henry’s motive was frustration at inability to sire a male heir to the Tudor throne, and being a nominal Roman Catholic he couldn’t divorce, so his ruse was to “creatively delete” his wives, one way or another.
Finally, he did away with popery in style, setting up the Church of England (CofE) separate from Romish subjugation, he dissolved the monasteries throughout England, and made himself its head on Earth, replacing Rome’s “Vicar of Christ”.
English Catholics kicked up a fuss, until Henry died in misery, and by God’s Grace Queen Elizabeth the First completed the task with great tact, wisdom, and authority.
She became the first Protestant monarch England ever had: Was she genuinely born of God, a Christian? I doubt it, but nonetheless The LORD used her to end the Dark Age of Catholicism in England in answer to believer’s prayers. Praise The LORD for His Mercy.
“Good Queen Bess” advanced the British Reformation, and the Church of England made strides away from Rome’s satanic idolatry.
Sadly, only briefly.
The Vatican launched the counter-reformation, seducing the Church of England back to idols.
The Gospel Truth Reformers had bled and died for was gradually cooked into a spiritual chicken-broth, focussing on unity in the supposed brotherhood of man, and the true Gospel of repentance, with trust in the Sacrifice, Person, and Faith of Christ was quickly abandoned.
Subsequently, if any sinner was accidentally saved in the CofE ranks (by reading the Holy Bible for themselves) they were thrown out as an “extremist fanatic”.
That happened to a CofE Vicar’s son called John Wesley, and countless others down the centuries.
My hometown in the North of England was tolerated as a local non-conformist refuge for those who refused to comply with the false-teachings, idolatry, rituals, and sickening pomp of the Official Church of England.
A pot-puri of radicals such as; Puritans, Anabaptists, Baptists, Quakers, etc. and even Roman Catholics lived in unmolested freedom to preach their various messages for the four centuries since then.
It had a reputation for being the Athens of the North, and even in my youth was a spiritually undomesticated region.
The Quaker’s George Foxe had his occult experience atop the nearby witche’s Pendle Hill before emigrating to the English Colony of America, and founding the Quaker cult.
The town centre had various flavours of almost-Christian churches, Methodist, Congregationalist, Presbyterian, Baptist, plus the cults; Catholics, Christadelphians, JayDubs, Adventists, Mormons, and even a windowless Church of Satan where the old Christian hymns still ring out.
What About Queen Victoria?
The Victorian era is viewed as the pinnacle of British greatness and morality for which the Queen is given credit. However, it’s no secret that Empires have a very brief half-life; they all fail because of their innate corruption and ungodliness.
Imperialism is Not a Good Career Choice
Empires claiming to be based on Christian principles are rapidly brought to heel. Britain, for example was “Great” until it’s demise began in the Edwardian era only 120 years ago. It’s massive standing army and naval fleet has dwindled to almost nothing. The entire combined UK armed forces; army, navy, and royal air force of today could easily be seated in a modest football stadium.
Real Christians Don’t Build Empires
Worldly kingdoms and imperial plans are doomed from their conception: Almighty God doesn’t build like Kings and Emperors. Intimidation and brute force are anathema to Father God.
Volumes of Queen Victoria’s personal letters have been published, and a search of them for any mention of The LORD Jesus Christ yields a blank.
There are several “God bless you” and “God help us”, which are common parlance even among the unsaved and religious, but no Jesus, no Christ, and no LORD Jesus Christ.
This alone indicates Queen Victoria could never have been born again, and so was almost certainly unsaved despite her nominal observance.
Praise the LORD that we don’t have to judge people in this life, I’m happy to leave it to Him.
Our purpose is singular, to proclaim the Good News until He Appears.
What Good News?
The good news that God has come down from Heaven and shown Himself to the world in Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son
Why?
So that you can know what real God is like, that He’s gentle, loving, kind, and merciful to the lost.
So what?
So believe on The LORD Jesus Christ, and receive God’s mercy instead of judgment.
The good news that God wants you as His friend, His child, and His partner evermore.
Why?
Because God created you, and wants you to know Him, and His perfect love for you.
So what?
So you can come into His loving Arms now by trusting simply in what Christ has accomplished and finished for you at Calvary, not through anything you’ve done.
The good news that Jesus took all your sin on Himself, and bore God’s judgment in your place.
Why?
So that God can legally acquit you of all guilt on account of Jesus’ Name.
So what?
So repent of unbelief in The LORD Jesus Christ and believe that all your sin was judged in Him.
The good news that Christ arose alive on the third day.
Why?
To prove that He was without sin of His own, and that the sins of the world have been judged in Him.
So what?
So repent and believe on Him, and the Living Christ will come into your heart now, and give you His eternal life.
The good news that Jesus took your sickness and disease on Himself at the Cross.
Why?
So that you don’t have to be sick or diseased, but can live and walk in His divine health evermore.
So what?
So believe Christ bore your pains, you illness, and be healed by believing in Him as your Saviour-Healer.
