Temptation Endured

© 89 RLM Used by kind permission

Let the Spirit cover you today, that you may be intensely earnest about the deep things of God.

You should be so much in the order of the Spirit that you know that your whole will, your mind, and your heart may be centred in God to such a point that He lifts you into the pavilion of splendour where you hear His voice.

    Christ: Head of the Corner

      The Chief Cornerstone

Q: I understand why Christ is described in the Bible as the chief cornerstone and head of the corner, but I’m having difficulty imagining the stones mentioned because a “corner-stone” sounds so different from “the head of the corner”; can you help?

A: Yes, Praise God, I can, because it also bothered me until I made a point of looking into it.

        Liberty or Bondage?

Q: Is it a sin to read books other than the Bible?

I’ve just started getting serious about my Christian Faith. I love to read and write. I like to read a variety of genres (both books and comics) and am currently working on writing a comic book from a Christian perspective. I’ve also written several non-fiction short stories and submitted them to publishers (none have been published, though). Lately, regardless of the genre, I’ve been getting this guilty feeling when reading or writing. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder about two weeks ago, so I don’t know if it’s because of that. I also know Jesus used stories in his Ministry, but those could have been true and could be considered devotions (which I think are acceptable and necessary to grow in my faith). Any advice? Kate

            Is Present to Heal

And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

            A Christian’s Food

              © 11 Colin Melbourne

              Eat Right: Live Right

              We read about Christ’s secret diet Jn. 4:34 KJV;

My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Christ’s life depended upon Him doing the Will of His Father. He called it His meat, His food. Obeying God the Father nourished God the Son spiritually.

There’s a powerful lesson for us there.

Q: Are interracial relationships a sin? Are we supposed to get married? Is divorce a sin? Jennifer

A: There are no inter-racial relationships; the term is an oxymoron because, according to God’s Word, there’s only one race: The human race.

                  Preaching to Family

                    © 19 Colin Melbourne

Q: When do we stop preaching the Gospel to individuals who have shown time, and time again, that they won’t accept it?

Are they not accepting the message because I am a poor speaker, and am not gifted in evangelism?

I am a Christian who grew up in a family with no religion. My brother, mother and father are all non believers.

I tried to share the message at dinner this evening, and was disheartened when no one would take me seriously.

I’m feeling discouraged thinking that it’s me who gave the wrong message. I’m not sure when to try again, or if ever.

Please give me some advice. I’d really appreciate it. Allie

                    A: Well done Allie!

                    How to Find God’s Will

                      © 06 Colin Melbourne

His Good, Pleasing and Perfect Will

One of the most frequent questions Christians ask is, ‘How can I know God’s will?’

Many are stuck in a rut of indecision concerning an important choice they have to make.

They pray, fast, and ask God to make His will clear, often seeking their friend’s and Pastor’s advice, but end up frustrated, locked into circular reasoning.

Typically they plead, ‘How can I be sure that it is God, and not just me?’

It is the word of God.

We all can see that the church cannot play with this scripture. If any turn away from these clear instructions they are in a place of tremendous danger.

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Q: Whilst chatting with a Christian about getting married she mentioned, “Marriage should only be in the Lord.” Does it mean that God approves of marriages in a church, but not those in a registry office?

A: No, the phrase has nothing to do with the location of the marriage service.
